Submitting a Briefing Paper

Delegates for the DTTEG Symposium 2025, on 2nd June, are encouraged to submit a proposal for a briefing paper as part of the programme. There are two options:

  • Discussion Panel Member: There will be a 1-hour discussion panel in the morning, where a maximum of eight (8) 'provocateurs' will be invited to present a 3-minute provocation on the theme of 'What is the Future of Design and Technology Teacher Education?' Panel members are envisaged to be individuals with a national profile in the field, who will bring their knowledge and experience to bear on the above theme, supported by a briefing paper* that will be published alongside the event (see guidance below). Following the provocations, the panel convener will invite questions and comments from the audience to inform the panel discussion.

  • Lightning Talk Presenter: There will be a 1-hour short paper lightning talk session in the afternoon, where delegates will be invited to deliver a 10-minute presentation on an innovative idea and practice in D&T teacher education and/or development.  Anyone involved in D&T teacher education that supports the aims and scope of DTTEG are invited to submit a briefing paper* that will be published alongside the event (see guidance below). Depending on the number of lightning talk submissions that are accepted, thematic parallel sessions will be arranged to provide opportunities for as many delegates to contribute, not matter what stage in their career they are at. There will be a 5-minute introduction by the session moderator, with four (4) lightning talks followed by 10-minutes for questions and discussion.

* Briefing Papers, and participation, will be accepted on the basis that delegates have booked onto the Symposium by Monday 5th May 2025, in order to facilitate the finalisation of the programme and compilation of the briefing papers in the online proceedings.

Guidelines

Briefing papers should be a maximum of 2-pages in length using the DTTEG Symposium Template, and following the Styles embedded in the Microsoft Word document. Please note that submissions that do not use the template and styles may be rejected. Briefing papers should be written in accessible and straightforward language, with a diverse audience in mind (i.e. avoiding overly academic or technical terms and ideas that may exclude or discourage engagement). Where appropriate, references should be included, but we encourage delegates to keep these to a minimum and focus on open access sources where possible/available. Queries can be made using the contact page on the website. Submissions must be made on the DTTEG Symposium 2025 Easychair portal following deadlines below:

  1. Submission of draft version by Monday 12th May 2025.

  2. Receipt of feedback for amendments by Monday 19th May 2025.

  3. Booking onto the Symposium by Monday 26th May 2025.

  4. Submission of final version by Wednesday 28th May 2025.
